The Tribe Hunting
The Tribe Hunting Method was used primarily by the Native Americans. It is a method that involves hunting in tribes, or groups. Hunting in groups was safer because the weapons they used, spears, required them to get very close to the prey to kill it. The main goal of this method was to corner the prey and cause them to run off a cliff. The fall at the bottom would be enough impact to kill the animal. The spears were a back up option. The primary tactics here were fear, intimidation, and numbers. The Native Americans would use this method to hunt bison. There is a great exhibit at the Milwaukee Public Museum that demonstrates this method. The most important part of this method was that the hunter acted as a team. This helped them hunt, feed their families, and ultimately, to survive. The team aspect also helped them carry their prey back to camp.
This method is no longer as common. Hunting has become a much more individual activity and it has changed from a means of survival to a hobby for most people. This change is directly related to the changes in weapons. As the weapons evolved, it required less people to hunt. This is a result of the weapons being able to kill the animals faster and from a much safer distance. When hunting with a gun, the prey might not even know the hunter is there compared to when it is being ambushed.

These pictures were taken at the Milwaukee Public Museum. It is a great demonstration of Tribe Hunting. The men on the top of the cliff cornered the bison and forced them to run off of the cliff. Then the men at the bottom cliff delivered the final kill to the bison at the bottom.
