The two main types of hunting during the Middle Ages was 'At Force' hunting and 'Bow and Stable' Hunting. At Force hunting was a group activity. A group of men were split into teams and they would track and chase down prey. Then the would compete for the kill. The men on these hunts had to be fit, young, and very active. Often dogs would accompany each team. The most common prey for these hunts was the wild boar.
The 'Bow and Stable' Hunting was the less strenuous form. The men were less active. This technique was performed on horseback using the bow and arrow as the primary weapon. Dogs also accompanied this hunt. They would corner the prey into enclosed spaces where the men could shoot it at close range. The main prey for this hunt was the deer.
